No me refiero al valor econ\u00f3mico que llega a tener la colecci\u00f3n, sino al capital humano que tiene invertido cada uno de los veh\u00edculos. Su propietario, el se\u00f1or Roberto Prieto Villamizar, es fuertemente reconocido en el mundo de los BMW por tan detallados e impecables procesos de restauraci\u00f3n que ha realizado sobre sus autos. Roberto inici\u00f3 sus estudios de ingenier\u00eda de sistemas en la Universidad de Los Andes. Sin embargo, abandon\u00f3 la carrera para ingresar a un instituto de t\u00e9cnica automotriz donde aprendi\u00f3 a ser mec\u00e1nico, pues su pasi\u00f3n siempre fueron los autos y las motos. Se dedic\u00f3 a ser mec\u00e1nico durante varios a\u00f1os hasta que cambi\u00f3 el rumbo para dedicarse a ser protesista dental, profesi\u00f3n que a\u00fan hoy ejerce en la empresa familiar que pasi\u00f3n de Roberto por los autos inici\u00f3 desde muy ni\u00f1o, pues creci\u00f3 rodeado de excelentes veh\u00edculos ya que su padre tuvo la fortuna de ser propietario de diferentes Mercedes Benz, BMW y Volvo, entre otros. Sin embargo, por ser los m\u00e1s deportivos, sent\u00eda cierta atracci\u00f3n por los BMW. La verdadera pasi\u00f3n por la marca b\u00e1vara naci\u00f3 durante su infancia cuando vio pasar un BMW 2002 color golf (amarillo). Se hizo entonces la promesa de que ese carro alg\u00fan d\u00eda ser\u00eda suyo.<\/p>\n<p>Pas\u00f3 el tiempo y Roberto tom\u00f3 la decisi\u00f3n de hacerse a un carro viejo. No buscaba en ning\u00fan momento tener un cl\u00e1sico sino simplemente un veh\u00edculo viejo para poder desplazarse y trabajarle a manera de hobby en esos mantenimientos que no pod\u00eda hacerle a los autos nuevos. Tom\u00f3 la decisi\u00f3n de comprar un BMW E21 sin saber que ese ser\u00eda el primer paso para formar una colecci\u00f3n. Mand\u00f3 pintar el carro sin invertir mucho dinero para que se viera medianamente bien. Fue entonces cuando cay\u00f3 en cuenta de que hab\u00eda comprado muchas partes nuevas para el auto y val\u00eda la pena hacerle una restauraci\u00f3n completa. Se realiz\u00f3 el trabajo y el auto se hizo merecedor de las placas de cl\u00e1sico.<\/p>\n<div cl\u00e1sico, entonces le pregunto acerca de ese tema.\u00a0<em>Me\u00a0fascina ver un carro con placas. Empiezo a detallarlo y miro qu\u00e9 tiene, qu\u00e9 no tiene. Un carro\u00a0moderno se\u00a0consigue en el concesionario en cualquier color y\u00a0cualquiera lo puede tener. Por otro lado un carro que ha subsistido m\u00e1s de treinta o\u00a0cuarenta a\u00f1os, es una m\u00e1quina que ha sobrevivido el paso del tiempo y eso me gusta. Cada due\u00f1o conduce orgulloso su carro porque es para eso, para lucirlo con orgullo. Estos no son carros para ir y venir del trabajo, son para lucirlos y eso me apasiona.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Caminando por el garaje de Roberto se hace imposible no notar el gran n\u00famero de repuestos y herramientas que lo adornan. Me explica que \u00e9l perfectamente podr\u00eda contratar a un mec\u00e1nico para, por ejemplo, reparar un motor. Sin embargo, su placer radica en desarmar los autos \u00e9l mismo y posteriormente volverlos a ensamblar. Lo anterior lo hace siguiendo las normas de originalidad de cada ejemplar, buscando dejarlos tal cual como salieron de f\u00e1brica. Cada restauraci\u00f3n es un reto ya que las partes que no se consiguen, Roberto decide fabricarlas. Ocasionalmente hace lo mismo con partes que s\u00ed se consiguen, \u00fanicamente por el placer de poder decir que \u00e9l cre\u00f3 dicha parte para su auto.\u00a0<em>Hay muchos que tienen el dinero y compran un auto cl\u00e1sico, pero restaurarlos con las propias manos, eso s\u00ed es un verdadero placer.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Me detengo unos segundos para pedirle a Roberto que me explique un poco acerca de la importancia de mantener un carro en su estado original. Lo anterior para responderle a tantos aficionados que cuestionan tan duramente nuestro rechazo a las modificaciones o <em>tunning<\/em>. Le pregunto entonces a Roberto por qu\u00e9 no aprovechar los avances tecnol\u00f3gicos para mejorar el rendimiento del motor de un auto cl\u00e1sico. <em>Conducir un cl\u00e1sico es salir literalmente a lucirlo. Para correr tengo m\u00e1quinas que corren mucho m\u00e1s. Si quiero correr salgo en una de mis motos que anda todo lo que usted quiera y mi carro no lo modifico. No me interesa competir ya que no soy una persona de andar todo el tiempo a 180 kil\u00f3metros por hora. Se asoci\u00f3 cuando compr\u00f3 el E21 y ha encontrado all\u00ed muchos beneficios. Disfruta salir a rodar con personas que comparten la misma pasi\u00f3n y que pueden ense\u00f1arle acerca de las carrocer\u00edas BMW que ya han restaurado. Con el Club aprendi\u00f3 a buscar en los cat\u00e1logos de piezas con el n\u00famero de chasis y a mejorar los carros guiado por los consejos de los dem\u00e1s socios. Le pido entonces un consejo a Roberto para todos aquellos que buscan iniciar con este hobby de los autos antiguos.\u00a0<em>Si va a tener un carro antiguo, el due\u00f1o debe estar dispuesto a que se le vare. Por m\u00e1s que usted le haya cambiado todo, hay algo siempre viejo que va a fallar. Cuando se le vare no se desespere, estos son carros para goz\u00e1rselos cuando est\u00e1n andando y cuando est\u00e1n fallando. Si est\u00e1 iniciando la recomendaci\u00f3n es comprar un carro conservado porque restaurarlos cuesta mucho dinero. Personalmente yo los restauro por el placer que me trae hacerlo, pero eso es anti econ\u00f3mico, pues es la\u00a0forma m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil de botar dinero. Usted compra un carro en 10\u00a0millones, le invierte 100 y despu\u00e9s no le van a pagar ni siquiera 50. En mi caso no me importa que se me hayan ido 100 millones, pues voy a usarlo y no lo voy a vender. Yo lo hago por la satisfacci\u00f3n de buscar cada pieza y superar cada reto. Ases\u00f3rese de gente que sepa y h\u00e1gale un buen peritaje al carro para saber qu\u00e9 hay que hacerle. Busque un carro que est\u00e9 bien de latas y de l\u00ednea, pues la parte mec\u00e1nica se puede recuperar completamente pero lo otro no.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Actualmente la colecci\u00f3n cuenta con once veh\u00edculos de los cuales no puede elegir un favorito. La idea no es repetir carros sino tener uno de cada modelo, d\u00e1ndole prioridad a la variedad en la colecci\u00f3n. Roberto asegura que existen muchas compa\u00f1\u00edas que han hecho muy buenos carros tales como Mercedes Benz, Ferrari o Porsche. Sin embargo, se mantiene con BMW y no est\u00e1 en sus planes hacerse a otra marca. Entre sus planes est\u00e1 adquirir un E23, un E9, un E34, un E39 y un E46 M3. Si le tocara repetir carrocer\u00eda elegir\u00eda otro E10 y en este caso s\u00ed ser\u00eda para modificarlo y competir.<\/p>\n<p>El proyecto de la colecci\u00f3n piensa llevarlo paso a paso, pues la inversi\u00f3n econ\u00f3mica se ha realizado con mucho esfuerzo y a trav\u00e9s de muchos a\u00f1os. <em>Es muy sencillo hacer una colecci\u00f3n cuando se tienen 5 mil millones guardados. No es mi caso. A cada cosa que compro le dedico mucho tiempo para buscarla, me esfuerzo para que me salga barata y trato de arreglarla lo mejor posible. trabajar en los carros es una actividad terap\u00e9utica para Roberto, existen situaciones que le gustar\u00eda no repetir jam\u00e1s pero que ahora recuerda entre risas. Hab\u00eda desarmado uno de sus E30 para solucionar una falla. Despu\u00e9s de volverlo a armar abri\u00f3 el ba\u00fal y se encontr\u00f3 con el motor limpiabrisas. Instalarlo es imposible despu\u00e9s de haber puesto la calefacci\u00f3n entonces tuvo que volver a desarmar todo. Con el E21 tambi\u00e9n tuvo contra tiempos. Ya hab\u00eda terminado de armar el carro, estaba completamente listo. Roberto pas\u00f3 a encenderlo y el radiador de la calefacci\u00f3n estaba roto. Para solucionar la falla tuvo que desmontar nuevamente el millar\u00e9, la calefacci\u00f3n, el aire acondicionado y dem\u00e1s partes para poder llegar al radiador y cambiarlo. Finalmente lleg\u00f3 el radiador y despu\u00e9s de volver a armar el auto qued\u00f3 impecable. El E21 estaba perfecto y listo para las fotos cuando Roberto puso encima del filtro del aire un destornillador y cerr\u00f3 el cap\u00f3, el cual empuj\u00f3 dos veces sin entender por qu\u00e9 no cerraba.
