Fue entonces cuando surgi\u00f3 la propuesta de crear una f\u00f3rmula m\u00e1s cercana al p\u00fablico, con autos de producci\u00f3n en serie. Se cre\u00f3 entonces el Grupo 5 F\u00f3rmula&nbsp;<em>Silhouette<\/em>&nbsp;que permit\u00eda modificar los carros manteniendo el aspecto y los principales elementos del original.&nbsp;Jochen Neerpasch empez\u00f3 a trabajar en el auto que utilizar\u00eda BMW para el Grupo 5. Ya que los autos del Grupo 5 deb\u00edan ser producidos en serie, BMW deb\u00eda comprobar que hab\u00eda producido 400 unidades, para uso en calle, en un periodo de dos a\u00f1os. En ese entonces la marca b\u00e1vara ten\u00eda una gran falta de capacidad productiva, por lo que tuvo que acudir a la ayuda de otro fabricante: Lamborghini. Justo cuando la empresa italiana hab\u00eda terminado el primer prototipo, surgieron grandes dificultades financieras. La reacci\u00f3n de BMW fue r\u00e1pida tomando la decisi\u00f3n de transferirle el proyecto a Baur, un carrocero en Stuttgart. Finalmente en el Sal\u00f3n del Autom\u00f3vil de 1978 en Par\u00eds, hace exactamente cuarenta a\u00f1os, BMW present\u00f3 el M1 dise\u00f1ado por Giorgio Giuggiaro. Este auto marc\u00f3 el inicio del sello distintivo creado por BMW Motorsport GmbH para todos los productos que utilizar\u00edan el prefijo <em>M<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"contenedor-video\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qNsZ4IhuGtQ\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Con el paso del tiempo se hizo evidente que Grupo 5 no se destacaba en el mundo de las carreras, por lo que BMW tom\u00f3 la decisi\u00f3n de crear una nueva serie para as\u00ed poder explotar al m\u00e1ximo el M1. Jochen Neerpasch y Bernie Ecclestone cerraron el acuerdo que ser\u00eda de gran importancia para la historia deportiva de BMW. Todas las carreras de los M1 se desarrollar\u00edan los s\u00e1bados antes de los grandes premios europeos. Todos los pilotos de F\u00f3rmula 1, a excepci\u00f3n de los de Ferrari y Renault, que hubieran clasificado entre los cinco primeros durante los entrenamientos del viernes deb\u00edan participar obligatoriamente en esta nueva serie que se llamar\u00eda&nbsp;<em>Procar<\/em>. Se dec\u00eda que aquellas carreras eran incluso m\u00e1s emocionantes que las de F\u00f3rmula 1 de los domingos. Esta nueva serie se disput\u00f3 durante ocho rondas del Campeonato del Mundo de F1. Esta serie monarca, que fue la m\u00e1s r\u00e1pida jam\u00e1s concebida, \u00fanicamente dur\u00f3 dos temporadas en las que ganaron Niki Lauda (1979) y Nelson Piquet (1980).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div serie <em>Procar<\/em>. El costo de un M1 en aquel entonces era de 100,000 DM (Marcos Alemanes) que en el a\u00f1o 1978 alcanzaban para comprar 8,006 gramos de oro. Seg\u00fan lo anterior se puede hacer una aproximaci\u00f3n a lo que ser\u00eda el precio de un BMW M1 con el dinero de hoy en d\u00eda en Colombia: 1,063 millones de pesos en la vitrina de M\u00fcnich, Alemania.&nbsp;En nuestro pa\u00eds se importaron dos M1, pintados de color rojo localmente y posteriormente restaurados a su color original. Es propiedad del se\u00f1or Felipe Garc\u00eda, un colombiano que es propietario de <em>Mint Classics<\/em>, donde se venden veh\u00edculos muy especiales.
